ARJ Construction Ltd in Stevenage was originally formed in 1991 and in 2005 changed from a partnership to a limited company, since this time our portfolio has expanded to encompass a fully comprehensive client base across the healthcare, education, commercial office, retail, industrial and residential sectors. Our projects range from refurbishment of live working environments through to creating high-end new build facilities and are geographically focused in and around London/Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.

We do this by building and maintaining strong relationships with our clients over the long term; 70% of our projects are from repeat business. Effective management of people and projects ensures success. We are known for our non-adversarial approach and trusted for always delivering, any of our three Directors can be directly accessed daily, which builds our customer understanding and leads to ensuring the best solution.

At ARJ we adopt a flexible, can-do approach on every project, with our Directors and Senior Management team attending all relevant meetings ensuring clear lines of communication, so that issues can be dealt with at source. We are currently recruiting for a Planner to work within a team of two on both pre-construction and live projects, the nature of our requirement is due to recent growth within the business and will be based at our Head Office in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. This role will offer the successful applicant the opportunity to grow and develop their career within a successful, progressive and privately owned principal contractor.

Key responsibilities

•Identifying programme risks and problem solving
•Monitor live projects against baselined programmes - create drop lined programmes
•Liaise with construction managers & commercial managers to review the progress of projects
•Review tender documentation and create programmes to support bids
•To create, maintain, review and administer construction programmes
•Travel to and visit sites as and when required

Skills & experience required

•Proficient using MS Project
•To have an understanding of construction techniques and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues
•Experience within a similar role with a main contractor
•Have knowledge of the planning requirements of different forms of construction contracts
•Understanding of various types of projects e.g. new build and refurbishment
•A practical understanding of the various sectors we work in e.g. commercial, residential, education & healthcare
•A basic understanding of M&E & structural elements
•Have an appreciation of the impact of cost in the compilation of a programme
