JOB TITLE: Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic

SALARY & BENEFITS: GBP20,456 per annum plus benefits

WORKING HOURS: Full Time

From front line services, to operational and support services who work in a variety of professional roles to support front-line activity our client aims to continue to provide this excellent service , and now to help achieve this, seek an experienced Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic to join their Dogsthorpe workshop/station in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

THE ROLE: As a Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic you will report to the Fleet Workshop Team Leader and Head of Group and will be responsible in preparing, maintaining, servicing and repairing a fleet of vehicles , fire service operational appliances and other related equipment.

Key Responsibilities for the Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic role in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire :

- Conduct services, maintenance tests, modifications and repairs to all operational appliances, support vehicles

- Act as Duty Technician on a rota basis to provide round-the-clock cover 365 days per year to repair vehicle and equipment breakdowns at accidents/incidents

- Advise on the correct operation of vehicles and equipment to prevent failures and faults. Make decisions regarding the road worthiness of vehicles in accordance with regulations e.g. Vehicle and Operator Service Agency and Operator manuals etc.

- Initiate and maintain accurate records, including job cards and vehicle defect logs

- Monitor stock levels, for vehicles and equipment and order spares

- Attend manufacturer, supplier and in-house training courses as necessary to ensure knowledge is updated and maintained

- Work as part of an out of hours emergency call out service overnight and at weekends and public holidays on a rota basis to provide 24 x 7 x 365 support, This includes a 20% on-call allowance

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic's role must a qualified technician / mechanic to a City & Guilds (or equivalent) standard and must have previous experience working on HGV and LGV vehicles. You should have good knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic knowledge relating to vehicle maintenance and must have a licence entitling you to drive HGV / LGV vehicles. You should have experience in breakdown recovery work and is essential you have experience or the ability to use IT based diagnostic tools. Due to the nature of the role you should be physically fit, able to work to and meet deadlines and must be flexible in your approach to work and able to commit to a out of hours on call rota.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Vehicle Technician / HGV Mechanic role in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire :-

- Must have a related City & Guilds qualification or equivalent

- Previous experience working on HGV / LGV vehicles

- Must have licence entitlement to drive HGV / LGV vehicles

- Breakdown recovery experience

- Ability to use IT based diagnostic tools

- Live within or be able to commute to Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

- Must be able to commit to an out of hours on call rota for which 20% on-call allowance will be given
