About Willow

We believe in quality of life and quality of time.

Inspired by our founders, former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson; his wife Megs; and their daughter Anna, who tragically died from a very rare form of cancer aged just 31; we know that time is precious.

Every day we see young adults who are experiencing the devastating impact that diagnosis, treatment and recovery from a serious illness can bring. At a time in your life that really should be all about living life fully.

Our aim is to focus all of our energies and efforts in helping to rectify this, by creating unique and unforgettable Special Days. A day to anticipate, a day to share, and a day to remember. Thankfully, for many young adults their Day is an opportunity to put much-needed normality back into living, to mark the end of treatment and a new beginning. Sadly for some, it is a last chance to fulfil a dream with the people that really matter.

In 2016 we were able to provide 1279 Special Days, an incredible 24% increase on the previous year and the highest number provided in the last five years; however we have ambitions to significantly grow the number of Special Days we deliver. This means that we also need to grow our income and improve the efficiency of our fundraising.

But it's not just what we do but how we do it that matter, our values and behaviours help us to have a shared approach to how we achieve our ambitions. We care; we're all about special relationships; we cherish people and time, they're our most precious resource and we have the courage to imagine otherwise.

About the team

The major partnership and events team is made up of 9 members of staff who are responsible for GBP2 million gross income including flagship event income, third party event donations and partnership income (Inc. staff fundraising and CRM)

The Major Partnership team have two primary objectives:

Effectively manage existing partnership income optimising all opportunities to raise profile and income for Willow, while meeting the partner's objectives.
Research, identify and develop new partnership opportunities

About the role

For a relatively small charity thanks very much to our founders, Bob and Megs Wilson, Willow is a surprisingly well connected charity. This means that we have a valuable network of contacts where warm introductions can be made to begin discussions about partnership.

We already have major partnerships with Barclays and Multiplex, strong links with the commercial property sector, several smaller partnerships and have more exciting prospects that we are currently developing.

Our Major Partnerships Manager is especially strong in developing new business and so we are seeking someone to support her primarily in managing existing partnerships. You'll need to be curious and responsive, driven to delivering beyond the expectations of our partners, with great communication skills and lots of ideas. You'll be inspired by Willow's belief in quality of life and quality of time and you'll live and breathe this with our partners while also having fun!

It would be great if you also have experience in developing applications and pitches, as a small team we often juggle a lot of balls and from time to time you'll also be helping the events team especially with the stewardship of corporate guests at our flagship events.

If you have a passion and commitment to our cause and can honestly put a tick against the list below, we'd love to hear from you.

We will need you to:

Have previous partnership management experience, specifically developing fundraising activities and communications aligned to the needs of the partner.
Feel confident that you can quickly get under the skin of Willow so that you can identify and research strategic alignment and new partnership opportunities.
Be happy talking to all kinds of people in all kinds of places, from young adults with serious illness to CEOs of major organisations, people must be your thing.
Have great English language skills and a good knowledge of the full Microsoft package, with the ability to produce creative presentations and care about writing compelling letters and documents with real authenticity.
Be able to work within budgets, producing financial information and reports when they're needed and keep up to date with all fundraising related legislation and codes of practice ensuring that the team follow agreed best practice.
Be adaptable and able to deal with ambiguity, we need to be responsive to opportunity and so you need to be happy to switch direction in a heart beat. Resilience and reliability are a must!
Be highly motivated and confident working on your own and as part of a team.
Oversee the work of the Major Partnerships Assistant, ensuring attention to detail in all administration and especially in the use of our CRM system, Raiser's Edge, it's a busy team and we need someone to make sure we are on point with the nitty gritty.
Be willing and able to work outside of office hours where events and meetings demand it, this includes evenings and weekends from time to time.
