Temporary contract (approximately 6-months)
Our client is seeking a highly-motivated individual to fulfil the role of Geographic Information Systems Assistant.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute towards the client’s effective community safety programme by providing analysis of emergency incidents and associated demographic data. Additionally, the support of operational mapping systems will form part of the role, from the emergency control room to vehicle mounted data terminals.
Position Summary
As GIS Assistant, your specific duties will include;
• Data analysis and presentation,
• Maintenance of datasets,
• Maintenance and management of the corporate gazetteer,
• Determining and executing the most suitable form of presentation of work, ranging from static maps, interactive web-based mapping, spreadsheets etc.
The GIS Assistant will also assist with the development, training and support of staff across the service in relevant GIS tools.
Person Specification
We’ll be looking for an individual who is keen to help progress the integration of GIS with other systems, particularly data warehouses, CAD and management information tools, and to assist with the development of small local systems. They should have:
• A detailed understanding and experience of GIS, associated systems and their potential.
• Ability to significantly contribute to the strategic, technical development and implementation of GIS throughout the Service.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Educated to a good standard of education including Maths and English, preferably with a higher level qualification in a geographic or IT based subject.
