Duties and responsibilities
Specific
To prepare, deliver and collect equipment for practical classes.
To prepare and set up practical examinations.
To prepare and set up demonstrations.
To prepare and maintain stocks of chemical solutions.
To maintain the science laboratories in a clean and tidy condition including washing glassware and advising appropriate personnel of loss or damage.
Maintain cultures and microbes.
Maintain comprehensive records in respect of safety, equipment and chemicals.
Check the security of science laboratories, preparation and storage rooms.
To check the safety of equipment.
To order new stock, including chemicals and equipment (subject to the approval of the budget holder) with associated checks on receipt of goods.
Undertake stock control and inventories.
Support science staff who may need to deliver at Lower Mounts or Daventry site
Organise the safe disposal of unwanted chemicals and the residues of experiments in accordance with legal requirements.
To provide technical advice to members of staff and students across the college relating to science issues.
To manage science equipment loans and workshop bookings.
To ensure adequate stocks of PPE, re-ordering when necessary.
To ensure the laboratories operate safely (ie that teaching staff follow COSHH guidelines and prepare Risk Assessments).
To sit on the College H&S Committee
Any other reasonable duty as directed by line manager.
