JOB TITLE: Manufacturing Director

WORKING HOURS: Full time - Monday - Friday

THE COMPANY: We are currently working with a niche leading manufacturer of premium quality bathroom, door and window fittings with a strong brand and established markets both home and overseas.

THE ROLE: The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director and closely liaise with other Directors on a daily basis. Whilst there will be a considerable degree of day to day, "hands on" management in this role, there will also be a need to identify improvement plans and implement systems to enhance the company's manufacturing effectiveness which will include close liaison with the Sales function to ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities to include:-

  • To plan, co-ordinate and control all manufacturing within the Company
  • To ensure products are manufactured efficiently, at the correct levels of volume, cost and quality
  • Lead a team of Departmental Managers, covering - Production, Quality, Costing, Warehouse and Maintenance.
  • An understanding of ERP/MRP to determine production needs through the development of a production schedule. Monitor and amend the schedule to satisfy changing requirements and non-standard elements of demand.
  • Assess manpower requirements to meet that schedule, and authorise recruitment of staff accordingly.
  • Preparation of Departmental, and involvement in the Company Annual Budget
  • As the Board member responsible for Health & Safety, to promote and ensure the implementation of good practice. Chair the Health & Safety Committee.
  • Monitor and maintain quality control through the Company Quality Management System
  • Manage and support the Departmental Managers to ensure their objectives are met.


THE CANDIDATE: The successful individual must have wide experience of production manufacturing, excellent interpersonal skills with the ability of overseeing, motivating and directing a team to achieve exceptionally high standards.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate good people management skills together with the ability to plan and prioritise their own work as well as being a team player.

Preferably SME experienced within the Metal Working and/or Metal Finishing sectors would be desirable although not strictly essential.

Key experience essential for the role:
  • A degree in Production / Operations Management and/or Engineering related discipline (outstanding candidates without formal qualifications may also be considered)
  • Previous experienced in a similar capacity (Director or Senior Manager level) gained within a production environment, involving some "made to order" element
  • Must best a very approachable person with excellent communication skills
  • An understanding of and experience in the latest manufacturing techniques
