The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales
Chief Constable of South Wales Police
Appointment of Members to the Joint Audit Committee
The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales and the Chief Constable of South Wales Police are seeking applications for appointment as Independent Members of the Joint Audit Committee.
The Role of the Committee
In accordance with the statutory obligations contained within the Police and Social Responsibility Act 2011 and the Home Office Financial Management Code of Practice, the Joint Audit Committee was established to provide an independent assurance function in respect of the arrangements for financial governance of both for the Commissioner and the Chief Constable.
The focus of the Committee will be on providing an independent assurance function in respect of the arrangements for financial governance for the Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales and South Wales Police. This includes assurance on financial and non-financial performance where there is an implication for exposure to risk or where there may be a weakening of the internal control environment. The legislation also establishes a “Police and Crime Panel”, which is responsible for overseeing the Police and Crime Commissioner and to review and scrutinise his decisions. The Committee receives reports from the internal auditors, Wales Audit Office and HMIC who then report to the Commissioner and Chief Constable on the strength of the internal control environment.
The Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales and the Chief Constable of South Wales Police firmly support a policy of equal opportunities, and would welcome applications from all eligible persons irrespective of gender, ethnic origin, religious belief, sexual orientation, or disability, so that the membership of the Joint Audit Committee reflects the communities of South Wales.
