Assistant Accountant (Maternity Cover upto 15 months contract commencing July 2017) - Birds (Derby) Limited

Established in 1919, Birds is a family owned manufacturer and retailer of bread, confectionery and savoury products with 58 shops throughout the East Midlands and a bakery in Derby.

Reporting to our Financial Controller and based at our Head Office in Derby, the Assistant Accountant will support the production of the quarterly management accounts by providing accurate and timely financial information, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals & prepayments and stock valuation. You will also reconcile the payroll and PAYE resolving any variances and be able to process the weekly payroll in the absence of the Payroll Administrator.

The role is responsible for credit card reconciliations and data compliance testing.  Company Asset Register maintenance and reconciliation and Utilities Management are also within the scope of this role.

We are looking for someone who constantly reviews existing processes and who looks for simplification opportunities, synergies and smarter ways of working.  You will be able and prepared to support colleagues within both our small team and also within the wider Company from time to time.
 
Our preferred candidate should hold a financial qualification at, ideally, diploma or degree level, whilst in addition being able to demonstrate a good depth of experience of transactional accounting alongside your very good excel, verbal and written communication skills.
