Reed Scientific are currently working with an Industrial Biotechnology company based in the UK, who are looking for a Shift Process Technologist to add to their current team.
Reporting to the Production Manager as the Shift Process Technologist, you will be responsible for managing a small shift and being part of a highly motivated operations team. You will be someone who is customer focused with a desire to learn and develop into this role, is flexible, proactive with an ability to undertake problem solving and make decisions.
Hours: 08:30 - 16:30 during training period and then you will be required to work 4 x 11 hr shifts 07:00 - 18:00 (4 on, 4 off shift rotation)
Role & Responsibilities
* Preparation, start up and monitoring of enzyme plant production process.
* Scale up and commercialisation of fermentation and downstream processing for new enzyme products.
* Diagnostic enzyme production.
* To undertake problem solving and decision making within a self-managed, continuous improvement environment.
* Working closely with Operations, Quality and New Product Development teams when developing new process/technical capabilities.
* Trouble shooting, solving process problems and exploring innovative solutions.
* Ensure effective communication on handover between shifts.
* Work within shift to ensure delivery of individual and team responsibilities and targets.
* Lead and supervise a small team.
* Deploy resources effectively.
* Providing input and support to gross margin improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
* Ensure maintenance of plant and equipment is carried out to agreed schedules.
* Execute basic mechanical and preventative maintenance tasks to minimise unplanned downtime.
* Report and track any maintenance issues or safety issues found during the shift.
* Respond positively and effectively to changing customer needs.
* Stock control of raw materials and finished goods.
* Write GMP work instructions and batch records.
* Programming of fermentation equipment.
* Produce reliable, accurate data and keep accurate records of work undertaken and results.
* Working with your team on continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
* Be conversant with and adopt the procedures stated in the Quality, Environmental Management System (QEMS) Manual and its supporting documents.
* Carry out the responsibilities stated in the Managing Director's Health & Safety Policy.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry/Biology/Biochemistry or related Life Science subjects
* Experience in a GMP environment (FMCG/Pharmaceutical/Chemical), working in accordance with HACCP principles.
* Knowledge of lab and production scale equipment for fermentations and downstream processing.
* Operating manufacturing equipment.
* Leading, managing and developing a small team.
* Following standard operating procedures.
* Maintenance of production equipment.
* Basic engineering/scientific/chemical process skills.
* Working in controlled areas e.g. GMP, clean room.
* Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety Management systems.
* Aseptic techniques.
