At Manchester SLT, we believe that collaboration is paramount to achieving success and we strive to continuously develop our skills and share our knowledge with others through training, education and support.  We work within specialist units, clinics and in the community - providing assessments to identify any need for SLT input and offer assistance with the provision of bespoke interventions in order to to assist individuals in reaching their highest potential.

 

We have exciting opportunities for full time Paediatric SLTs to join our team, working with schools in central Manchester and the surrounding areas. The roles will entail working predominantly in a school setting however will also incorporate some client consultations in the community and our central Manchester clinics. 

 

School based duties will involve delivery of speech and language therapy into mainstream and SEN schools, at early years, primary, secondary and higher education level and will require the use of specialist skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.  Interventions may be on an individual, group or whole class basis.  The role may also require creating SLT pathways, therapy programmes and resources.  An element of the role will be providing advice, training and workshops for  teachers, education staff, parents and families to support the ongoing management of speech, language and communication needs.  The role will also involve producing reports and recommendations, as well as liaising with specialist SLTs and multidisciplinary team members as indicated, in order to provide a holistic service that best meets our client’s needs.  Successful candidates will also partake in service development tasks and support junior members of staff in completing their competencies.

The Ideal Candidate:

The successful applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Bsc Hons / Msc in Speech and Language Therapy
  • Completed RCSLT Competencies
  • Member of HCPC
  • Experience working in schools (preferably at secondary school level)
  • Experience running group therapy sessions
  • A minimum of two year’s experience.
  • Experience working with a wide range of speech, language, communication or swallowing disorders in children
  • Experience of working with children with chronic disability and progressive conditions.
  • Experience writing comprehensive reports for children undergoing education, health and care needs assessment / EHC plans.
  • Experience providing support and supervision to junior members of staff

 

Our ideal candidate will be a confident and enthusiastic autonomous practitioner who has a passion for working with children and young people and the drive to make a real difference to lives.  They will have a strong working knowledge of SLT assessments, interventions, SMART goals and outcome measures, as well as sound clinical reasoning skills.  They will have good knowledge of relevant guidelines and codes of practices that apply to the education system.  The successful candidate will have a patient centred approach and will routinely utilise evidence based practice, whilst adopting a holistic multi-disciplinary team approach in their therapy.

 

The successful applicant will be of a personable nature, they will be honest, reliable, empathetic and professional and will naturally build a good rapport with children, teachers and other professionals.  They will work well both independently and as part of a team and will cope well under pressure.  Their verbal and written communication skills will be exemplary, as delivering interventions and providing training and clear instruction is fundamental to achieving success in this role.  The successful applicant will also have strong report writing skills and competent computer skills.

 

The successful candidate will be hard working, highly organised and capable of prioritising their work and managing their time appropriately.  They will have a patient and flexible attitude and will adapt to effectively deal with varying situations that may arise on a day to day basis.
