Deputy Manager (Community Wellness Garden)

Who will I be working with?

Bridge Community Farms (BCF) is a social enterprise creating jobs for the long-term unemployed and providing a therapeutic environment for those with mental health and learning difficulties, along with outdoor study facilities for children and students to learn horticulture, food preparation and basic business skills. The team of employees and volunteers get a huge buzz from helping vulnerable people learn new skills and improve their self-esteem and quality of life. The ambitious organisation has exciting plans for new indoor facilities and offices, and to extend support for more clients.

What will the role of Deputy Manager of Wellness entail?

Reporting to and supporting the Wellness Manager, you will take a hands on approach to create an interesting, varied therapeutic environment, with an atmosphere of teamwork, mutual support, achievement and fun, amongst the employees, clients, volunteers and visitors. Tasks will include;

  • Ensuring that 80% of your working day involves the training and development of employees, wellbeing clients and students
  • Organising horticultural activity/work for wellbeing clients and students on work experience
  • Assisting in the recruitment of vulnerable students and adults with mental health and learning difficulties, funded by their school, The NHS, Social Services or other supporting organisations, who will benefit from spending time on the farm or in the wellness garden
  • Supporting the development of the volunteer work programme and organising volunteer work days, corporate team building events, school visits and community programmes onsite
  • Measuring and reporting the social outcomes
  • Maintaining the farm in a safe, well organised and appealing condition
  • Agreeing quarterly and monthly priorities and targets
  • Ensuring farm activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements

What will I need to be considered for this Deputy Manager of Wellness role?

  • Qualifications within either Health and Social Care, Therapeutic Horticulture or similar, along with experience working with vulnerable people 
  • A keen gardener/grower and happy to work out of doors in all weathers
  • Organised with the ability to delegate tasks effectively
  • Good sense of humour; practiced in the art of “being happy and communicating happiness”
  • Kind and calm nature, able to cope with stressful situations
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills, and a pleasant telephone manner
  • Physical fitness
  • Computer literacy, including good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Timely and accurate administration skills

Salary:                         £20,000 per annum

Working Hours:            Full time, 5 days out of 6 on a rota covering Monday to Saturday.
