Manufacturing Technician (Metallurgical – Biomedical)

You’ll be joining the highly experience team at Magnesium Elektron’s state of the art manufacturing facilities, where you’ll receive comprehensive training to become a competent Metallurgical Technician.

So, what will the role of Metallurgical Technician entail?

Based within the brand new, award winning SynerMag Technology Centre, you will be working as part of a small, enthusiastic team developing and manufacturing state of the art biodegradable magnesium alloys which have been developed to support repairs within the human body.

Comprehensive training will be provided to enable you to develop your manufacturing skills and knowledge to take responsibility for the following;

  • Preparing raw material
  • Melting and processing metal alloy
  • Machining of billets
  • Extrusion of billets of metal using a state of the art (automated) extrusion press
  • Completing laboratory based quality testing, including metallography and tensile testing
  • Accurately updating databases with test data
  • Completing ‘Non Destructive Testing’ ( e.g. die penetrant & radiography)
  • Contributing to team problem solving, working with manufacturing, quality and other colleagues

What will I need to be considered?

  • Proven experience within a manufacturing environment, with the ability to effectively operate machinery by following documented procedures
  • Ability to test and inspect products to ensure product meets specification
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
  • Superb problem solving and organisation skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and work autonomously
  • Quality focused with a high level of attention to detail
  • IT literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Confident, professional, and flexible with a ‘can do’ attitude
  • GCSE Maths and English

The following would be advantageous, although not essential:

  • Manufacturing experience within the automotive, medical or aerospace industry
  • Familiarity with “Mini Tab” Statistical Process Control (SPC) software
  • Yellow Belt Six Sigma certification

Salary:                                     £19,000 - £25,000, level dependent on experience
