(Senior) Energy Technical Advisor BLUS48817

As a lead member of our clients energy team you will be responsible for senior technical energy advice and inputs on energy access consultancy projects, including managing and delivering key energy high-quality technical consultancy in the international energy and development sector. Be the key technical adviser on energy access quantitative research within our clients company. 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Act as the technical energy access lead for the Technical Team: Provide technical leadership and technical quantitative delivery into existing and new projects as they arise in the energy access sector, including existing projects on energy and gender, clean cooking, Green-Mini-Grids, energy finance and SE4ALL. As a technical expert, to lead and develop new projects in the area of energy access: including inclusive growth strategies in Africa and Asia, value chain analysis and energy markets systems, clean cooking business models, and energy access policies.
  • To lead and design their contributions to Poor People’s Energy Outlook programme of work on energy access and in doing so work collaboratively with the leads of the PPEO, our clients Policy and Practice Team. Provide thought leadership to lead a team of international development specialists, researchers, consultants, and technical specialists and in doing so ensure the delivery of the programme ensures that the technical approach is using and advancing best practices and ensure this contributes to their strategic delivery. The role will also contribute to shaping future editions of the PPEO.
  • As project manager, to be responsible for all aspects of project delivery including technical research and analysis, budget and contract management, client relationships, partner co-ordination/facilitation, production of reports/knowledge products and team management. To manage and provide technical input to ongoing and new international projects in the area of energy markets for developing countries as managed by the Energy Team Leader.
  • To deliver new business development and international networking on energy access to develop a growing portfolio of work. To contribute to the achievement of the UK business strategy by winning, managing and undertaking work in the energy and development (and associated) sectors within our clients UK target geographical areas.

This is a broad remit that requires someone with significant relevant experience, knowledge of off-grid energy access technologies, understanding of energy access issues, excellent communication, networking and influencing skills and strong analytical and organisational project management capabilities. You will have a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant subject and have experience in a commercial environment delivering results to client deadlines. This role will require considerable experience of managing multi-country, multi-year, multi-million pound programmes in complex environments. Your communication and influencing skills across cultures will be excellent and you will have a good network of contacts amongst research and consulting firms and understand the requirements of funding agencies. Fluency in English is essential and advanced French preferred.

Salary: Grade B : £35,424 to £43,997 (depending on experience)
