Job Title: Development Chemist
Location: Clevedon
Report to: Senior Development Chemist/Technologist
Peer Positions: Development Engineer, Development chemist, Electrical Engineer and Manufacturing Engineer
To undertake lab work to investigate customer applications issues under the direction of a senior development chemist / technologist in order that acceptable solutions can be developed using a structured approach, with an emphasis on fundamental understanding of the problems.
Key Skills & Experience:
??Analytical chemistry background, preferably in gas chemistry.
??Understanding of analytical techniques, detection limits, cross sensitivity, etc.
??Knowledge of gas phase FTIR and mass spectrometry, electrochemical cells would be of benefit.
??Understanding of safe gas plumbing using Swagelok or similar compression fittings, valves, mass flow controllers, sampling pumps, etc.
??Operate within an industrial lab environment, conduct safety reviews prior to experiment build and operate in a safe and considerate manner
??Mechanical, instrumentation or electrical knowledge would be beneficial.
??Ideally 1 - 3 years industrial experience after graduation.
??Preferred experience in the field of semiconductor process tool development or operation, abatement equipment design or operation.
??Experience of dealing with equipment end-users at a technical level would be an advantage.
JOB SPECIFICATION
Our Client are seeking a Development Chemist to undertake work in the Gas Abatement Laboratory, where we develop new gas abatement technologies and equipment, and improve the performance of existing equipment. Abatement technologies include combustion, thermal, liquid, and plasma reactions. The position will be within the innovation, development and applications group; interacting with an interdisciplinary environment of engineers and scientists. The position will report to a senior development chemist.
The role requires an ability to work in an industrial lab environment and observe EHS rules and guidelines. Analytical chemistry skills including; instillation of test gases, leak checking of test equipment, analysis of gases using equipment including FTIR, mass spec, electrochemical cells, analysis and write up of data. Demonstrated ability to contribute to innovative technology development or product improvement. Carry out risk assessments on prototype equipment or lab test rigs and to operate them safely. Ability to interact with other members of the technical community at a detailed technical level. Ability to transfer detailed technology requirements to an engineering group and ensure that the design intent is reflected in the resulting product designs.
