An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Copywriter / Copy Editor to join UK NARIC based in Cheltenham.

UK NARIC is a multi-faceted organisation working in the international education sector, based in Cheltenham. Our growing communications output requires an additional copywriter / copy editor to join the communications and PR team.

UK NARIC is the official national agency in the UK for information and recognition in relation to international qualifications. We work with universities, colleges and other educational organisations, and with employers and professional bodies, in the UK and overseas. Our organisational members subscribe to online databases, with enquiry and support services, training and a large annual conference.

Job Role

  • UK NARIC is growing and our professional and creative communications and PR team now requires an additional copywriter / copy editor.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are absolutely essential, as is respect for deadlines.
  • The breadth of our communications output – from writing online application forms in crystal-clear English for overseas individuals, to sophisticated marketing materials and reports for education and government audiences – demands excellent judgement on tone and style.
  • The role requires the abilities to write high-quality material from a brief, and also to edit and re-shape content prepared by others.
  • Some of the matters we deal with are specialist and technical, so the talent to get to the crux of an issue and express ideas and processes simply and directly (but accurately) is key.
  • Our communications team prepares content across all platforms, from print and online to webinars, video, multimedia and signage. This is not a technical role, but awareness and grasp of different platforms and their requirements will be an advantage.

This is a new position. The ideal post-holder will be able to contribute to the further development of UK NARIC’s social media activity, in particular generating ideas and new output to support our events and new service launches.

Responsibilities will be:

Principally, as a member of UK NARIC Stakeholder Management Group:

  • Writing high-quality material from a brief, and also editing and re-shaping content prepared by others;
  • Producing communications output – from writing online application forms in crystal-clear English for overseas individuals, to sophisticated marketing materials and reports for education and government audiences;
  • Helping to prepare content across all platforms, from print and online to webinars, video, multimedia and signage;
  • Contributing to the further development of UK NARIC’s social media activity, in particular generating ideas and new output to support our events and new service launches.

An ideal Copywriter / Copy Editor will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • A Bachelor degree from a UK University
  • Ability to write high-quality material from a brief, and also to edit and re-shape content prepared by others.
  • Excellent judgement on tone and style in communications output
  • Ability to further shape the development of UK NARIC’s social media activity
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Respect for deadlines
  • Excellent Team Working Skills
  • IT literate, particularly with regard to Word / Microsoft Office

Desirable

  • CIM or CIPR qualifications or Journalism proficiency certificates, or relevant memberships such as CIPR
  • An understanding of UK and international education systems
  • An awareness and grasp of different communication platforms and their requirements
  • Proficiency with design software programmes and platforms such as Wordpress
