General Manager (Restaurant)

Where will I be working?

The Tal-Y-Cafn is a modern day coaching inn turned bistro pub in the Conwy Valley, North Wales. The restaurant has recently undergone a £1million renovation consisting of two bars, a large kitchen and an outdoor BBQ area, designed to cater for approximately 120 indoor and up to 120 outside covers. There are also two guest accommodation rooms on the premises, maintaining the 18th Century roots as a coaching inn, with plans to expand the accommodation offering to 42 rooms.

The business employs a local workforce of 40 front of house and kitchen professionals, serving from the bilingual menu of delicious locally sourced produce, local beers, spirits and a carefully selected wine list.

What will the role of General Manager entail?

Managing this £1.5million t/o business with ambitious growth plans, you will lead, manage and develop the team of front of house and kitchen staff, ensuring superb team communication to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction with food, drinks and overall service, at all times

Whilst handling the daily operations you will also take a proactive approach to develop a profitable business through cost control, organising events and promotions, and maximising on high volumes of passing trade alongside gaining regular community custom, working closely with the Accommodation Manager to ensure smooth operation and maximise business profits.

You will also manage the inventory and order stock, organise rotas, working with the Head Chef to develop menus, and build effective relationships with suppliers to negotiate the best value for the business.

What do I need for this General Manager role?

  • Proven experience as a Restaurant Manager or General Manager within the hospitality sector
  • Drive and commercial awareness with a good understanding of Profit and Loss accounts
  • Ability to develop and lead a team, with experience in delivering staff training
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work
  • Enthusiasm and determination to succeed
  • IT literate

The ability to speak Welsh is highly desired although not essential.

What will I receive in return?

Salary:                         £30,000 – £35,000 depending on experience

Attractive Benefits:       Attractive profit share incentive, onsite accommodation if required

Contract Type:              Permanent

Hours of Work:             Full time, 48 hours per week over 5 days. Flexibility will be required due to the nature of the role.
