Abingdon School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and self-motivated Head of Grounds

Job Title: Head of Grounds

Location: Abingdon, Oxford

Salary: £25,000 - £30,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience

Job Type: Full-time - 40 hours per week: 8.00am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, with a half hour unpaid lunch break each day. Flexibility in working hours will be required due to the seasonal nature of the service and will include some weekend work.

The School has extensive sports fields in four separate locations. The sites comprise of cricket pitches, rugby/soccer pitches, an athletics track, tennis courts, synthetic turf pitches and a boat house. There are also areas of woodland, and undeveloped ground including public rights of way which need to be managed.

The successful Head of Grounds candidate will be responsible for the operational management of all aspects of maintaining and developing the School’s grounds and gardens.  The position will combine extensive ‘hands-on’ management with administrative responsibilities.

Head of Grounds – Qualifications

- Qualified to use tractors & sit on mowers (City & Guilds)

- Grounds management experience which must include cricket grounds and pitches, also synthetic pitches ‘2’ and ‘3G’ specification

- Sound knowledge and use of horticultural machinery

- PA1 and PA6 spraying certificate

- IOG Technical certificate or (NVQ Level 2) or relevant experience

- Full driving licence (maximum of 3 penalty points)

- Sport pitch marking experience

- Training in Estate Management (desirable)

- Engineering/motor engineering qualification (desirable)
