THE ROLE: Financial Accountant (Group)-Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Are you looking for a new position which will technically challenge you and provide a break from the routine? My client is looking for a Group Financial Accountant to join our future focused, small and friendly Group Accounting team in Cambridge. As a Group Financial Accountant you will be actively involved with the development of accounting systems, including development internationally.

The role is challenging and varied, encompassing Higher Education Institution, Charity and UK Company accounting. In addition to reporting, the Group Financial Accountant plays a key role in maintaining internal controls and reconciliations, liaising with external accountants responsible for providing accounting information in respect of the Group's expanding overseas operations.

Key Responsibilities to include: - Financial Accountant (Group)--Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
  • Prepare statutory year-end accounts and other returns for the Group and its UK subsidiary undertakings.
  • Maintain a reconciliation of Intercompany accounts within the group and arrange the periodic settlement of intercompany balances.
  • Be responsible for the review, reconciliation and loading of overseas subsidiary monthly financial data to our SAP accounting system.
  • Supervise one member of staff responsible for the Goods Received/ Invoice Received account reconciliation.
  • Other tasks including the preparation of cash flow projections and ad-hoc investigations.
THE CANDIDATE- Financial Accountant (Group)--Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

We are looking for someone who enjoys getting to the root of the problem and thrives on complex problem solving. You will hold a professional qualification or part qualification with a recognised accountancy body, and have experience in a finance/ management accountancy role, including the preparation of accounts for audit. Good communication and IT skills, attention to detail and the ability to analyse financial data are essential.

Supervisory experience and knowledge of Higher Education and/or Charity Statement Of Recommended Practise (SORP) accounting is desirable.


Key experience for the role: Financial Accountant (Group)--Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
  • Experience in finance/ management accountancy role which involved preparing company/ or charity accounts for audit
  • Professional qualification with a recognised accountancy body or significant and continuing progress towards such a qualification.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel and an ERP system (ideally SAP)
  • Experience of supervising staff desirable
  • Ability to use Excel at an advanced level
  • A very high level of numeracy
  • Be able to manipulate data to provide relevant and useful information to stakeholders
  • Willingness to share knowledge and encourage development of others
