Our client is looking for a Mentoring Coordinator to join their team and provide support and structure to their growing network of volunteer mentors. Together with the team you will recruit, train and support new and existing mentors that are part of the mentoring programme. The Mentoring Coordinator will also identify and work alongside local young care leavers to support them on their journey through the mentoring programme.

Position Summary
As Mentoring Coordinator, you will be responsible for mentor recruitment, selection and matching. Other duties will include:

• To deliver mentor training (10 week course run twice yearly)
• To deliver mentor supervision, evaluation and support, contributing to the assessed and expressed needs of Care Leavers by providing suitable mentor relationships and additional support to young people as required
• To contribute to the development and promotion of the clients, liaising with referral agencies and funders
• To interpret monitoring data and produce and present evaluation reports
• To provide information and advice to other project staff on specific areas of project activity that the post holder has responsibility for
• To create safe and realistic activities for young people and mentors
• To provide out of hours support (on a rota basis) for mentors and young people


Person Specification
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years experience working with vulnerable and disengaged groups. Additionally they should have:

• Experience of coordinating a project and making presentations to groups and professionals
• Experience of managing, motivating and supporting volunteers or staff and delivering training
• Has an understanding of Safeguarding Procedures and of the issues faced by young people in care and care leavers
• Ability to engage with young people, as well as being passionate and committed to improving the lives of young people in care
• Open minded, non judgemental and non assuming
• Ability to be solutions focussed, has a “Can Do” positive attitude, is self motivating and self administrating
• Excellent listening, communication and organisational skills with the ability to write and present reports
• Ability to lonework but is also a good team player, willing to cover and support team
• Flexible and adaptable to changes in service requirements, is prepared to work evenings and weekends as and when required
• Car driver and has the use of car for work

They were set up in 2013 as a direct response to the unmet needs of local care leavers, and provide practical and emotional support to young people leaving the care system age 16-28.
