Legal & General Investment Management (Holdings) Limited (LGIM) is looking for a Product Strategy & Development Manager to contribute to the development and design of market leading, competitively differentiated and compliant products and propositions across LGIM’s Institutional and Retail funds and its bundled DC Pension range.

Key responsibilities

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Support the creation and delivery of an AUM and revenue generating product strategy
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of product, keeping key stakeholders aware of progress and highlighting matters for resolution as appropriate.  Ensure all product developments are innovative and drive clear customer outcomes, whilst being delivered in a compliant and timely way.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of relevant market activity and work closely with product team colleagues to develop specific visions and strategies that contribute to the future strategic direction of the business.  Interface with other internal business areas and external third parties to present, discuss and agree product plans and initiatives. Present in the market place to ensure continuation of market leading status.
  • Contribute to the definition, development and delivery of a strategy to ensure products are launched and maintained according to the Product Process and the Product Lifecycle Management framework.
  • Assist in regular analysis of customer, industry and regulatory activity, enabling strategic changes to be considered that may affect our existing products and propositions.  Assist in the production of business cases to justify expenditure. Work with other members of the Product Strategy & Development team to provide input to the planning stage/product proposal.
  • Work with corporate relationships to positively promote products and funds, identify solutions and maximise the opportunities from fund and product solutions.  Provide detailed product and propositional input at strategic and other key client meetings.
  • Keep abreast of industry and competitor innovations in the Product space, as well as legislative changes through UK’s IA (or local market equivalent), HMRC, global product related regulations and LGIM’s corporate relationships to identify consequential product development activity.
  • Develop working relationships throughout LGIM to resolve barriers to the achievement of agreed business critical objectives.  Review issue status, prioritise and drive through the changes required.  Supply technical expertise to internal stakeholders about product structures and processes, attend internal product governance committees, and ensure existing products remain appropriate, compliant and legal for the market by co-ordinating changes to existing product structures.

Required Skills & Experience

The successful candidate must have all of the following:

  • A quantitative undergraduate degree qualified or equivalent (e.g. Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Economics)
  •  A post graduate Degree in Management and/or MBA, with Finance covered as a component of the course
  • Relevant experience in Product Strategy or Strategy Consulting focused on the Asset Management Industry
  • Relevant experience and knowledge of product and proposition design, of strategy and of client needs
  • Good knowledge of the international asset management industry including investor types, distributional channels, the competitor landscape and an excellent technical knowledge of investment products is essential
  • Experience preparing for European asset management regulatory developments, particularly UCITS V, AIFMD, PRIIPs
  • Strong technical knowledge of global product vehicles
  • Knowledge of investment asset classes, instruments and strategies used across the investment management industry
  • Commercial awareness of market dynamics, market evolution and of the competitive landscape to ensure that LGIM bundled and unbundled products are well positioned
  • International experience, ideally within Emerging/Frontier markets
  • A proven track record of Project Management/PMO experience and a strong and proven strategy formulation at senior level
  • Proven delivery track record as part of a proposition and strategy team within a provider, asset manager and/or advisor or consultancy
  • Experience of working with internationally based key stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to negotiate both internally and externally, and to successfully influence meetings that may have senior stakeholders present
  • Strong knowledge of the European and international regulatory environment and its impacts on the asset management industry
  • Detailed technical knowledge of global fund structures
  • Excellent presentation skills including the ability to articulate and convey concepts and ideas to a senior audience (Executive Committee/Product Governance Committee) in a clear and compelling manner
  • A high level of resilience and delivery focused

Additional/desirable skills and experience

The following skills and experience are desirable:

  • Experience in Brexit preparation planning
  • Experience outside of asset management in broader areas of finance is desirable, e.g. Investment Banking, Wealth Management
  • Fluency in a second language
