JOB OBJECTIVES
To leading tooling projects and provide technical support for the development, specification, purchase, installation and qualification of Plastic Injection Mould tools. Projects will include new products NPI programmes, capacity expansion, pilot and industrial mould tooling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES;
Provide technical expertise on Moulding programs within the Engineering Department
Lead and deliver all relevant tooling deliverables to time, cost and quality standards on your allocated programmes.
Ensure personal compliance with Company quality policies, cGMP, procedures, and practices through appropriate communication, training, and education.
TASKS;
Prepare new tooling proposals and evaluate DFM reports.
Lead / Attend tooling design reviews for new projects. You will sign-off on General Assembly mould designs on projects under your control after evaluating the design for tool robustness, cooling, injection, ejection, Type of steel to be used, steel harnesses and coatings, mould movements etc)
Interface with all level of the organisation on Injection Mould Tooling design and manufacture processes
Review engineering programs and verify that they are aligned with the approach agreed with the Moulding Technology Manager.
Set objectives, lead, motivate, and manage Tooling Suppliers in order to deliver world class plastic injection tooling for the business and to defined Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
Lead, review and approve Tooling procurement activities within your allocated work stream to improve standardisation and maximise value added quality
Lead, review and approve Tooling Engineering risk management activities within your allocated work streams to maintain and minimise the impact of change on existing programs.
Support internal and external audits with the Quality Engineering team.
Provide mould tooling technical support on subcontract tool validation projects to agreed specifications and targets.
Advise and support R&D product development teams on the latest mould technologies i.e. hot runners, multi shot, stack tools, IML, insert tooling etc. when required.
Provide tooling knowledge on mould tool design and construction using different polymers.
Attend and be able to resolve chronic tooling issues/problems faced at tool maker and / or moulder. Be able to conduct detailed analysis of the problem and prepare action plans to resolve identified issues.
Track and report project progress under your control, updating daily / weekly reports as required. Analyse project timelines and share/escalate issues to the appropriate authorities.
Provide support for training / development of engineering resources.
Demonstrate strong and clear accountability / responsibility for successful and timely completion of designated tasks.
Ensure tooling equipment complies with site cGMP, Health, Safety and Environmental standards and policies.

Able to travel and communicate with suppliers / customers.
Good communications skills with colleges at all levels of responsibility on all sites

Additional information on competencies required
Expertise in Plastic injection moulding technologies, mould tool designs and process development.
Good level of project management, effective communication, presentation and documentation skills.
Structured and controlled working practices with clear and accurate documentation, reporting and presentation skills.
Risk analysis, HPRM / DFMEA.
Knowledge of Statistical analysis / SPC system.
Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Good level of hands on engineering experience in plastic injection moulding within a medium to high volume manufacturing environment.
Previous experience in a Medical Devices industries.
Good knowledge and working experience to interpret 3D and 2D drawing ; 3D CAD applications including SolidWorks, Moldflow analysis software or similar tools used for 'design for manufacture.
Project Management experience in the procurement and validation of tooling projects for a regulated industry
Problem solving with analytical skills able to question and challenge.
Design experience of complex moulding tools and Knowledge of polymers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Degree / HND qualified in engineering, preferably Mechanical, Polymer science or similar disciplines.
