THE ROLE DESCRIPTION BELOW IS FOR A TRAINEE PROJECT DESIGNER. SHOULD CANDIDATES WITH A PREVIOUS LEVEL OF DISTRIBUTION NETWORK DESIGN EXPERIENCE WISH TO APPLY, APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR JUNIOR/PROJECT/SENIOR DESIGNER ROLES AS APPLICABLE

Role Purpose:

Working within a team of designers reporting to a Lead Design Engineer, the post-holder is required to produce simple designs, quotations and work packs for new customer connections, under the guidance of a mentor.
The Trainee Project Designer is guided by the Design Policy and the Connection Charging Manual, and is expected to meet all Electricity Guaranteed Standards and safety standards under the guidance of a mentor.
It is expected that the Trainee Project Designer would commit to a period of training whilst developing their career in order to undertake progressively more complex designs and larger quotations.

Key Responsibilities include:

Professional liaison with customers, their agents and internal stakeholders to gain the information required to complete a quotation.Produce designs, quotations and work packs to agreed license condition and guaranteed standard timescales. This will include network analysis, reinforcement design and Netmap drawings.To gain an understanding of the Design and Connection Charging Policies as well as relevant Codes of Practice.Production of work packs satisfying all safety requirements for approval by a mentor.Together with Network Operations colleagues, to ensure delivery of projects to financial targets and support project closure through financial reconciliation.Commit to and undertake a long term training plan.

Nature and ScopeThe Connections Directorate designs and undertakes new and altered electricity connections within the UK Power Networks Licence area. All works are customer driven and the design team have to manage their time to meet customer expectations as well as comply with Licence Conditions, Guaranteed Standards and Safety Standards.
The Trainee Project Designer is required to provide support to the Design Team producing designs, quotations and work packs. The initial role of a Trainee Project Designer will be to complete simple schemes for new connections and diversionary work.
The role requires access to secondary substations to carry out surveys and installation of monitoring equipment.
The training and development plan will highlight key milestones as well as detail what is expected and how UK Power Networks will manage and document progress against targets.
