Network Strategy & Capacity Planning develops medium and long term company strategies and plans to meet the needs of the business. We're responsible for making sure that people in Network Rail understand the regulatory framework, that Network Rail meets our regulatory obligations and develops robust, sustainable deliverables and consistent business plans that reflect our corporate goals. These are translated into proposed enhancements that are developed and used to engage with potential funders, to secure funding needed to effectively manage and develop the network.

The Capacity Planning team balance the requirements of operators to use the network for passengers and freight trains, and the pressing need to spend time maintaining, renewing and enhancing the network. Our teams build detailed plans to offer reliable train paths while making sure we're flexible enough to respond to future changes. And with the increasing demand on the network, this team has a key role to play in this transformation. We have an ambitious business plan and support of the industry to dramatically improve our product delivery and a number of strategically significant programme's in-stream to support this change. We cover a wide range of responsibilities across programmes, analysis, access planning and timetable development and production.

Brief Description

Act as the business systems and data expert for Capacity Planning systems, to ensure these are fit for purpose and users are appropriately supported in their use.

About the role (External)

The Systems and Data team are comprised of four elements, Support, Data, Infrastructure and Projects. The Analyst role is situated within the projects element of the team along with two other analyst posts.
The projects team offer technical / specialist support and guidance to Capacity Planning, project teams or other Network rail departments to identify and develop solutions for Planning Systems or continuous Improvement initiatives. Working on varied projects and initiatives ensures the work is wide-ranging, interesting and offers a challenge.

Key accountabilities Deliver problem statement analysis to support technical understanding, option generation, development and implementation of systems and data solutions Provide specialist support and expertise in the interaction of applications and data with other systems in support of an integrated planning systems approach Maintain and improve data integrity, accuracy and completeness within Capacity Planning systems, ensuring it is fit for purpose Provide support for business customers of Capacity Planning systems and data in order that the benefits of these systems are maximised Provide users with expert advice, guidance and support to aid full exploitation of the capabilities of these systems Act as the primary point of contact with Network Rail's Route Services Directorate (RSD) and suppliers, in the provision of support for Capacity Planning's systems and data Work collaboratively across Capacity Planning and wider Network Rail to identify and develop new requirements and develop solutions Undertake continuous improvement activities which provide measureable benefit to the achievement of Capacity Planning's Business Plan Undertake the role in a way that is consistent with, and reinforces, Network Rails behaviours

Job skills, experience and qualifications

Essential
• Excellent analytical skills in a technical or systems related environment
• Proven problem solving skills and implementation of solutions
• Proven ability to use tools to query and manipulate data,
• Experience in presenting complex information to varied audiences
• Educated to a degree standard in a numerate discipline or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience

Desirable
• Exposure to project management concepts and practices
• Knowledge and understanding of Capacity Planning systems and data
• Knowledge of rail industry

We adhere to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the following pay range:
Salary GBP32,000 to GBP36,000
Network Rail adheres to the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). This is a government standard for pre-employment vetting. All prospective employees will undergo the required checks to meet this standard before joining the company.
