The Design & Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is also responsible for researching the best materials, at the best cost.
In terms of design, there's the sheer variety of our sites, many of them brownfield and all of them with unique problems to solve. Our drive for sustainability, value and ever changing building and environmental legislation means that innovative and unique solutions are required. Most of the people in this team have an architectural or engineering background, and for all, we offer the opportunity to gain expertise in design and project management in a challenging thought-provoking setting.
Role: Engineering Manager
Purpose:
Overall responsibility for co-ordination of externally appointed Engineering Consultants and internal Engineering assistants
Responsible to: Senior Technical Manager
Responsibilities:
To assume overall responsibility for the Engineering function ensuring delivery of investigations, reports, designs and detailing solutions for the regions projects To prepare pre-purchase appraisals of development opportunities advising on development constraints and 'abnormal' items requiring commercial provisions To maintain a continuous process of evaluation of Consultant's performance and design capabilities to ensure that service delivery standards and scheme proposals adhere to best practice in delivering Value Engineering To assist in managing the process of timely discharge of building regulations and planning conditions To ensure adoption agreements are secured in a timely manner Value Engineer of the Consultants designs to ensure fitness for purpose and best value
Personal characteristics/ qualifications and skills:
Minimum Associate Membership of an Engineering institute and 5 years post qualification experience preferred or minimum HNC/HND with 10 years post qualification experience A demonstrable track record in residential development and possessing the ability to confidently manage all areas where Consultant Engineers have an input into the development process Candidates must be credible, articulate and driven. Possessing the ability to successfully manage the performance of Consultant Teams and internal staff members
