Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: Up to GBP40,000 per annum, dependent upon experience

Main Purpose:
To carry out the duties associated with issuing mechanical, pneumatic/hydraulic parts for build, including producing designs, drawings and parts lists to meet customer specifications.

Key Accountabilities
-Create 'value engineered' design solutions against agreed technical specifications for all projects
-Undertake mechanical design calculations where required i.e. bending moments, stress etc.
-Identify potential product improvements and support implementation
-Liaise with relevant person(s) to ensure that customer requirements are understood and interpreted correctly
-Support other departments notably Purchasing, Production and Project Management
-Production of full assembly models, detail drawings and BOM's (Bills of Material) to the agreed ISO and quality standards
-Management of own workload to ensure target design deliveries are met
-Perform customer site visits when required for design reviews and factory audits
-Identification of any improvement to working practices within the Mechanical Design team.

Essential Qualifications / Experience
-Engineering qualification (HNC/HND) or equivalent experience
-Strong 3D CAD experience
-Ability to understand customer and technical requirements and establish the impact on the entire design (not just mechanical aspects)
-Experience in a machine design role within medium duty engineering
-IT literate with experience of MS Outlook, Word and Excel

Desirable
-Proficient user of SolidWorks
-Time served apprenticeship
-Knowledge of fabrication, machining and assembly
