The role of Management Accountant is responsible for maintaining the company’s accounts, including all assets and cash movements. This role is to ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions. We are focused on reducing paper waste throughout the business and finance documentation is (where possible) digital, therefore it’s your job to ensure all data is up to date at all times.

What are the main responsibilities?

  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analysing account information.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries and perform the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Summarises financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Produces payroll by initiating computer processing; printing checks, verifying finished product.Completes external audit by analysing and scheduling general ledger accounts; providing information for auditors.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements. Ensure the company remains within VAT regulations including Interstate for European Sales and Imports
  • Maintain the fixed asset module
  • Oversee the flow of Petty Cash within the business and Reconcile monthly
  • Verify and reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Turnover Reconciliation
  • Ensure M-Files (Document Management System) is up to date.
  • Produce and Distribute the Daily and Weekly reports to relevant personnel as required.
  • Spot errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Continuous Personal Development (CPD) - Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organisations.

Additional responsibilities

  • To take overflow phone calls as required and requested by the Customer Services Team & Operations Director.


Your duties may change over time as requirements and circumstances change.

Who do you liaise with?
  • Internally you liaise closely with members of the Operational Teams, Stock Control and Wholesale teams and other individuals within the business as and when appropriate.
  • Externally you may be required to liaise directly with Suppliers, Banks, Sage and Wholesale Customers.
  • You report to the Financial Director.

Hours and Remuneration
Normal hours are 37½ hours per week worked between 8.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday in agreement with your line manager. Due to the nature of the role we would expect you to take a flexible approach to your hours.

Salary: £26,000 -£30,000 per annum dependant on experience (3 month probation period)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Skills/Experience Essential

  • AAT Qualification Level 4 minimum. Further study to CIMA will be encouraged and supported.
  • Minimum of 3 years in an accountancy role
  • Excellent working knowledge of the advanced features of Microsoft Excel (e.g. VLookups, Pivot tables)
  • Proficient in the use of Sage 200 Accounts Software or similar
  • Good standard of literacy, essential to communicate effectively with customers and staff (minimum GCSE grade B or equivalent experience)
  • Good standard of communication, ability to communicate at all levels across the organisation
  • Excellent IT skills and experience (Microsoft Word, Outlook etc.)

Desirable

·       Hold a recognised high level qualification in Accountancy or Finance (e.g. CIMA, ACCA).
