The Commercial and Corporate Legal Counsel role is based within Commercial Banking (CMB) Corporate and Commercial Team, UK Legal.

The role of the Commercial and Corporate Legal Counsel is to provide legal advice, guidance and primary support to the UK Bank's Commercial and Corporate Banking business (Business Banking (BB) and Mid- Market Enterprises (MME) business sectors and where priorities and resourcing require other areas of the CMB business/legal function within the UK .

Your responsibilities will include:
Providing counsel and legal support in relation to English corporate banking law and material regulatory issues that have an impact on the relevant business area (including regulated lending in the BB sector). Being considered a trusted adviser to the business by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner to the relevant business area. Providing support and guidance to the relevant business area in the UK with regard to legal risks arising in jobholder's area of expertise. Providing prompt, commercial, practical and sometimes complicated and / or specialized legal advice to the relevant business area. Being proactive in the provision of legal support to the CMB Business and Functions. Undertaking proactive stakeholder engagement and legal training to the CMB Business. Attending business and governance meetings where required. Maintaining and developing positive and professional working relationships with all team members within the CMB Legal Team, CMB Business. Participating effectively as part of the UK CMB Legal Team. Participating in the strategy for coordinating and promoting initiatives to share legal knowledge and best practices with legal colleagues. Providing legal services in a cost-effective and efficient manner. Assisting in managing the approach to legal risk in the relevant business area to ensure that the interests of the HSBC Group are adequately protected. Assisting the business to remain compliant with legal risk management requirements set out in the Group Standards Manual and Legal Functional Instruction Manual (FIM). Working closely with Regulatory Compliance and Financial Crime Compliance ( FCC) to improve efficiency and avoid duplication.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have:



Experience working in relevant environment/s, i.e. legal.

Role relevant qualifications, i.e.qualified solicitor with PQE

Past working experience on relevant systems, i.e. experience of advising in relation to English banking law either in private practice or in house.

Both spoken and written communication skills with experience of adapting your style and approach to the audience and message to be delivered.

Ability to build effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same.

Experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business/operating plans which consistently deliver desired results.

Ability to Use their business knowledge and understanding of customer needs to successfully manage and grow customer relationships.

The base location for this role is Birmingham.
