Our Client is a premium supplier of high integrity forged products to quality markets globally. They have created a fully integrated metals service centre which has grown to be a leading provider of open-die quality forgings, making safety critical components in service conditions from the deepest oceans to outer space. Their flexibility and scale of operations means that they can provide both highly specialised “one-off” forgings as well as volume production.
They now have an excellent opportunity for a Test House Manager to join their Technology Centre in Sheffield.
Reporting to the Quality Manger you will be responsible for the day to day running of the Test house, both the machining of test pieces and the mechanical and metallurgical testing of pieces. You and your team will perform the following tests, charpy, tensile and elevated tensile, hardness and stress rupture. You will also complete both micro and macro metallurgical testing. You will be required to organise training of staff, set and maintain performance indicators, assist with audits, provide information on test house capabilities, arrange for machines to be maintained and make sure that all work is carried out to specified standards and procedures.
You should have a sound working knowledge in the testing a wide variety of metals and have worked to UKAS and NADCAP standards.
To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have an excellent working knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical testing, have excellent report writing skills, you should have management experience. You must have excellent attention to detail and be capable of interpreting customer and international specifications. It would be an advantage to have lab heat treatment experience and a good working knowledge of calculating measurement uncertainty.
In addition, you should have sound decision making skills, excellent organisational skills and a flexible and proactive approach to work.
