Description

Our Client's Linux and Solaris based systems are key to both internal and client facing systems. Due to increasing demands, they are looking for a Unix Support Analyst to deal with a wide and varied selection of requests supporting the wider business.

An average day will be diverse and offer an opportunity to learn a multitude of technologies based primarily on the Linux platform. You will be investigating and resolving a variety of requests working with various teams. This role is suited to an individual who is keen to learn and develop but enjoys owning a problem, seeing it through to resolution.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and manage the escalations queue to ensure service requests and incidents across the UNIX estate are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Work with other teams in the department to identify trends and root causes of faults

Requirements

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Grade C or above in Maths & English GCSE (or equivalent)
  • Educated to AS / A Level (or equivalent)
  • Linux e.g. RedHat or Centos 6/7
  • Use of command line tools
  • Demonstrable experience with Linux
  • Experience of working in a customer-facing role
  • Understanding of SLAs/OLAs
  • Good numerical skills
  • Organised
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload
  • Ability to work well in a team
  • Ability to work and perform in a high pressurised environment
  • Confident
  • Hardworking
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Risk Aware

Desirable Skills and Attributes:

  • Degree educated
  • RHCSA
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Understanding of virtualisation technologies e.g. VMware
  • Configuration management systems (e.g. puppet/chef)
  • Source control software (e.g. Subversion, Git)
  • System monitoring (e.g. Opsview / Nagios)
  • Shell scripting using bash or sh
  • 1 years' experience supporting Linux based systems
  • Experience of working in a no downtime environment
  • Work in a financial services environment
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong written documentation of solutions
  • Ability to analyse and problem solve
  • Patient, diligent and diplomatic
  • Proactive, resourceful and able to use initiative
  • Willingness to learn, develop, and keep abreast of technological developments
