Job Description:

The Cardiff based building structures team is seeking to recruit an experienced engineer. The team currently engages in a diverse range of projects across many market sectors, including education, industrial and commercial by way of example. Commissions vary from inspection / survey and advisory services through to full design services, from inception through to completion. Often working as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary team, the successful individual will be required to support our continued successful delivery of structural engineering services on such projects.

Engineer role, to undertake activities within the structures section, predominantly in the design and / or assessment of building structures.

To provide technical support and mentor junior colleagues.

To take responsibility for the preparation of structural schemes or specific elements of major improvements, which includes:

- feasibility studies;
- preliminary design;
- detailed design;
- preparation of contract documentation

Requirements:

(Essential qualities that the desired candidate is likely to have - eg Chartered Status)

Degree or equivalent academic qualification in civil / structural engineering

Significant post graduate experience, minimum 10 years performing a similar role within a building structures team.

Preferably Chartered professional status, however applicants with suitable experience and/or approaching CEng or IEng will be considered.

Working knowledge of current design standards, including the Eurocodes and relevant parts of the Building Regulations.

Fully conversant with project delivery in the Building Information Modelling (BIM) environment, including a working knowledge of;

- Revit
- Robot
- Navis works would also be an advantage

Knowledge of contract procurement and preparation of specifications.

Knowledge of the implications of works on the environment and good knowledge of sustainable construction practices.

Good understanding of health and safety legislation, covering the construction industry, and in particular the CDM designer's duties.

Good standard of oral and written communication.

Ability to prioritise and deliver multiple projects to deadline and budget, including project resourcing and management.

Ability to work under minimum supervision.

A full driving licence.

Requirements:

Experienced in the use of business and project management software systems such as the MicroSoft Office suite and MS Project.

Responsibilities:

Ability to demonstrate competence and experience throughout the delivery of building projects, inception to completion, across a diverse range of market sectors.

Capacity to assist in the structural design process, and take responsibility for the production of structural calculations and associated drawings for schemes from initial report studies to award of contract, including assistance in the preparation of contract documents and procurement.

Contribution to technical feasibility studies and production of related reports.

Excellent understanding of the design process, including reviewing, checking and change control procedures.

To ensure the effective use of a range of standard office, CAD and specialist computer applications within the team.

To assist in the management, supervision and training of junior staff.

Compliance with designers CDM duties.

Client Liaison.

Commitment to continued professional development, and the development of new skills beyond the core functions.

The role will involve other duties as deemed necessary by the business.
