Senior Animal Technician
Starting Salary £21,951 - £25,718 per annum (plus £3,000 Recruitment and Retention Allowance for a Home Office Personal Licence)
Band Salary £21,951 - £31,099 per annum

You will lead a small team who provide animal experimental, transgenic and breeding services to researchers at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB). The animal facilities are located in the Ares Building on the Babraham Research Campus and in the LMB on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This post is based at Ares.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a room within the MRC/Ares mouse facilities
- Supervise approximately 3-4 technicians and be responsible for their training
- Organise accurate record keeping
- Ensure welfare provisions are implemented for all animals
- Promote excellence in animal welfare amongst all staff and promote improvements and implementation of the “3R's” principles and the LMB Culture of Care
- Contribute to the design and implementation of breeding regimes
- Cover for animal husbandry as required
For this post you will have a minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A-C or equivalent, hold a Home Office Personal Licence (PIL), category AB and an Institute of Animal Technology (IAT), level 2 diploma or equivalent Animal Care qualification.
You will have proven and current supervisory experience; have worked within a barriered facility and with breeding and colony maintenance programmes. You will have in-depth knowledge of animal welfare, the 3Rs, EU Directive 2010/63/EU and A(SP)A compliance. You also need to demonstrate an understanding of the routine nature of animal care.
