Embedded Systems Engineering Design Manager (Software, Hardware)

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Industrial Systems Design Manager will be responsible for leading a growing team of talented software and electronics design engineers including all aspects of the software and hardware product lifecycle with responsibilities:
- Lead a growing team of software and electronics design engineers.
- Develop robust and reliable systems for the control and monitoring of industrial control products in the harshest of environments.
- Oversee the design and development of software based embedded systems and coordinating the work of multiple engineers.
- Lead the ideation, technical development, and launch of innovative products.
- Work with a Project Manager in the preparation of project work plans, scopes, schedules and budgets from a technical perspective.
- Manage the implementation of Software Solutions through a Software Development Life Cycle and ensures processes and procedures are met in accordance to adopted best practices.
- Review overall software design with Technical Architect or Lead Software Engineer.
- Undertake design reviews, audits and testing to ensure that designs and products comply with specifications and relevant international standards.
- Identify, evaluate, and collaborate with suitable third parties and contractors.
- Collaborate with the company's other design managers locally and around the world to develop best practices and to leverage technology across a wide range of products.
- Work with test and development teams in remote locations across the globe.
- Generation of progress and other reports required by the Technical Director.
- Ensure the availability of design records and documentation and to assist with the production of Sales and Service literature
- Liaison with suppliers, customers and other departments throughout the business including such visits as may be required both in the UK and overseas
- Provision of technical support to Sales, Service, Production, Buying and Quality departments as required.
Candidate
- Enthusiasm for emerging technologies and willingness to embrace new skills.
- Ability to work to tight time and cost targets is essential.
- Proactive approach to work with good organisational and planning skills.
- Experience of managing the development and introduction of complex software based embedded systems.
- A high level of interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate technical detail to a range of technical and non-technical people.
Competencies:
- Minimum Hons Degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical or Electronic Engineering
- Minimum 5 years leading an embedded systems development team
- Project Management of complex software and hardware developments.
- Knowledge of, or experience in the following fields would be desirable: - Software: MISRA C, C#, Java Script, Python, Linux
- Hardware: Embedded microcontrollers/processors, Design for EMC,
- Industrial Communications: Profibus, Modbus, Foundation Fieldbus, HART, Industrial Ethernet.
