Clerk to the Corporation

Permanent Part-Time (26 hours per week)

Salary GBP33,027.026 pro rata (Full time equivalent GBP47,000) per annum

Sandwell College is a progressive, ambitious and forward looking FE/HE College operating from two state of the art campuses in the heart of West Bromwich.

Currently rated as 'Good' by Ofsted with a strong desire to achieve 'Outstanding' the Board of Governors, the Principal and the senior team are leading the way in developing an increasingly outward facing College for the benefit of our learners, our community and stakeholders.

We are now looking to appoint a Clerk to the Corporation; the person we seek will be enthusiastic and committed to assisting in the ongoing development of the College as a flagship for the area. The right person will be pivotal in promoting effective governance and assist in the development and implementation of governance policies and procedures. The successful candidate will have excellent administrative, interpersonal and communication skills and will work closely with and support governors particularly with and through the Chairman of the Board and the Principal.

The successful candidate will be responsible directly to the Board for the management and conduct of meetings including various committees and for providing professional advice in accordance with statutory, legal and procedural requirements. The successful candidate must be able to work independently on a daily basis and maintain an awareness of developments within the FE sector and elsewhere.

It is envisaged that previous experience in the FE sector will be a distinct advantage although a background with similar organisations where effective governance is essential will be also considered.

The 26 hours per week will need to be worked flexibly as it is an essential requirement for the role that the post holder attends all Board and Committee meetings many of which take place either in the early morning or evenings.

Support and training will be provided as required to develop and maintain appropriate skill sets.
