We are currently seeking to fill the following role at HMP Dartmoor;
Family Worker
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £18,500 to £23,000 per annum depending on experience
Contract: Maternity Cover - fixed term for up to one year
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, as a Family Worker your focus will be on supporting the family and other carers involved in the recovery of service users, with a focus on preparation for release. You will provide important information, guidance and advice for families and carers as well as ensuring that consideration of the family arrangements are incorporated into the assessment, recovery planning and appropriate referral and psychosocial interventions for the service user. This includes liaising effectively with partnership agencies in order to ensure continuity of care, key working and access to appropriate services.
As a Family Worker within the Recovery team, you will be responsible to working with other team members to review individual recovery plans and specifically to identify any specific stressors within the family/care environment including the support available. Your focus will be assess the impact of substance misuse on close personal relationships, including parenting, and plan appropriate interventions and support. This may well involve you design and delivering specific structured psychosocial substance misuse interventions to service users and family members/carers via group work, 1:1 sessions and/or self directed learning.
In addition, as a Family Worker you will also maintain key links and relationships within the Community, including appropriate support services, in order to assist service users and families both before and after release.
Ideally, you will already have previous experience of working in a similar field, either in the community or a similar environment, including working with families/carers and taking a holistic approach to recovery. You will be comfortable acting as a source of information, guidance and advice as well as signposting to other services. You will be able to undertake assessments and delivering a range of evidence based substance misuse psychosocial interventions focussing on parenting skills and family matters in 1:1 and group-work settings. You will have a good understanding of group working, group dynamics, and be able to demonstrate competent group work facilitation skills. You will be comfortable dealing with the emotional content of sessions and constructively challenging the behaviours you see. Some knowledge and understanding of mental health issues would be helpful.
In addition, you will be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and time management skills and be confident in managing your own priorities in order to carry a diverse workload with competing demands. You will have at least five GCSE's (or equivalent) and either hold or be willing to undertake a Vocational Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care. A further qualification in a relevant area such as Nursing, Health and Social Care, Community Development, Psychology related, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
Just as importantly, you will have a genuine interest in the understanding of substance misuse problems and a positive recovery focused attitude. You will be keen to develop professionally through our training programme and will demonstrate a high level of integrity and enthusiasm fort working within the structured environment of a prison.
