Position Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The site based role is to work under the management of the Project Director and alongside the Construction Manager to deliver major building services and principle contractor duties within a newly constructed building shell.
The project is within a highly regulated industry and has a programme duration of over 4 years.
To role is to ensure that the design is clear and that the needs of project and our Customer are able to be met.
The Design Manager shall provide leadership to both the lead designers (up to RIBA stage 4B) and supply chain (RIBA stages 4C to 7 ) through discussion, persuasion and debate to ensure that the designers adopt as their own the design decisions that are right for the project.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• To manage the design process effectively in sympathy and to time and quality milestones
• To establish smooth communication routes with all teams and the required authorities
• Responsible for the production of the Project Design Handbook to ensure that responsibilities, design requirements and procedures are established including
o A Design Responsibilities Matrix
o Co-ordination Procedures
o Information Production and Distribution Procedures
o Production Control Procedures
• Understand the extent of design required and the appointment basis for the scope of services required from each of the Teams
• Establish personal contact of retained design consultants to ensure their full understanding of their obligations and to agree methods for rapid resolution of any difficulties.
• Be clear about Costain's responsibilities as a member of the overall integrated team
• Work collaboratively with the Clients team
• Assist with the production of the Management Plan and schedule
• Coordinate the design and deliverables to achieve production targets and key milestones
• Chair design team meetings to monitor progress, give guidance and direction on design economy and discuss key design issues.
Required Experience
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
An ideal opportunity for a staff member who has an aspiration to develop in the Design Management and Leadership of a project to the highest quality and design safety standards.
Although the project is predominately services related the role is suitable to all staff with a background of delivering complex process engineering projects.
• An ability to work in a partnering environment with the client
• A member of an appropriate professional body
• Previous design experience in design projects to programme
• Ability to integrate M&E , General Building and complex Plant work packages to achieve quality and programme
• To be able to manage the design scope of works to a high specification / quality / safety standard
• To be able to seek opportunities and problem solve with the design team and supply chain to identify programme and production opportunities.
