An opportunity exists due to the large number of projects to recruit a Project Buyer to be located in our Project office. This role will be responsible for the procurement of project materials, predominately railway materials and you will continually seek to improve efficiency through the development of best practice procurement techniques. The Buyer will report to the Head of Project Procurement (South). Training will be give but a good background in materials buying and use of SAP is preferred.
What are my responsibilities?
• As the Supply Chain representative in the office you will help to promote the presence of Supply Chain in the office and be part of a small regional team for all purchasing requirements.
• Responsible for the day to day ordering and expediting using the SAP system.
• Responsible for obtaining quotations from suppliers where framework agreements are not in place.
• To work closely with the regional Material Interface Engineer (MIE)
• To obtain from the project, planning & bill of materials information.
• Engagement with key stakeholders.
• Ensure early and continuous integration of the Purchasing function into the projects.
• Ensuring that the client approved materials/parts are delivered within time, to budget, and to specification.
• Supporting Project Managers to develop and manage project delivery plans.
• Ensure that timely communication of all internal reports is met.
• Fully participate in all relevant Supply Chain Management training & process activities.

What do I need to qualify for this job?
• Proactive approach & positive outlook.
• Good numerate and Microsoft IT skills.
• SAP experience is preferred.
• Good interpersonal, collaboration and persuasion skills.
• Delivery focused.
• Commercially minded and able to communicate at all levels.
• Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team & under time pressure.
• Previous experience of working in a procurement role, ideally rail or a similar industry/environment.
• CIPS qualified or in the process of studying would also be an advantage.
• A working knowledge of ERP would be beneficial
• Good communication skills written & oral (essential)
