We're recruiting for a Legal Assistant to join the private client team of a well-established, successful company, based in central St Albans!

The successful candidate will be working within the private client department, supporting a partner or senior lawyers with all client file requirements, and providing general secretarial and administrative assistance to the team.

The ideal candidate will perhaps have experience working as a paralegal or hold an LPC qualification and looking for their next step in the legal field.

Key Responsibilities:
•Prepare, process and manage client files under team leader instruction, including drafting of wills, trusts, probate, powers of attorney and dealing with the administration of estates
•To produce fees in accordance with the fee targets set at the beginning of each financial year
•To introduce clients to lawyers in other departments as appropriate
•To manage the billing of all matters promptly and accurately, collecting any outstanding costs and disbursements from clients as required
•Opening and closing client files as per standard procedures, including performing online money laundering checks
•Take calls from and meeting with clients who call into the office without appointment, on behalf of lawyers
•Maintain lawyers' diaries and make appointments, including meeting room bookings
•Typing duties for fee earners
•Initial handling of client queries and new enquiries

Person Specific:
•Experience working within a law firm essential (ideally within a private client dept)
•Ideally educated to degree level or hold relevant legal qualifications
•Minimum 50 WPM typing speed
•Articulate with good written and verbal communication skills
•Good problem-solving abilities
•Computer literate
•Ability to multi-task, organise, prioritise and plan
•Ability to work calmly under pressure
•Confident with the ability to develop relationships with all levels of management

Salary: GBP28k - GBP35k, depending on experience

Benefits: 23 days holiday (plus 2 additional for Christmas period), pension contribution, discretionary bonus
