Technical Accounting Manager

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Accounting Manager to join our fast-paced Finance team. Reporting to the Group Reporting Manager the main purpose of this role is to provide technical IFRS and business knowledge with respect to:
- Lead on all group accounting policy matters
- Monitoring, evaluating and advising on new and emerging standards, principles and guidelines
- Reviewing and reporting on new and current business issues and providing technical guidance where requested
- Manage the IRC / Accounting Judgments process
- Support the various papers and documents provided to the Group Audit Committee meetings
- Review all externally published accounting information for compliance, reasonability and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the group accounting policy framework including:
- ensuring current policies remain fit for purpose;
- researching, evaluating and communicating new and emerging accounting standards;
- advising on amendments to existing accounting standards
- development and maintenance of group accounting policies.
- Development of group accounting manual to support the group accounting policies
- Liaise with both Group Reporting and business units in respect of their technical accounting issues;
- Lead and coordinate group wide technical reviews on significant accounting standard developments;
- Liaise with KPMG and other firms to agree the accounting treatment of issues arising and adoption of new and amended accounting standards;
- Provide technical, analytical and business knowledge on financial matters relating to new and emerging business issues and monitor the progress of existing business issues;
- Preparation of technical updates and communication of industry developments to Group Finance and business unit teams
- Perform a technical review of Annual and Interim financial statements to ensure that disclosures are in accordance with accounting standards and latest industry practice and that financial statements are of a suitable quality for publication
- Maintain up-to-date technical accounting knowledge, coordinating comment letters on exposure drafts, review of industry practice and participation on industry working parties
- Design a technical training programme and deliver to Group and business unit finance teams
- Advise on development of Group Reporting systems to support changes in accounting standards
- Undertake periodic peer group analyses
- Other ad hoc projects and activities as required
Qualifications Required
- Qualified accountant (ACA/CA preferred)
Experience Required
- Have extensive related experience in Financial Services with Life insurance experience essential
- Familiarity with working with multiple stakeholders and to tight timescales in a delivery focused fashion
- Ability to work both within teams and interact with the business representatives to drive solutions forward and effect change
- Experience of working in a highly results-orientated, growth and performance driven environment, with a focus on excellence but where costs are kept to a minimum
