Salary: GBP31498 to GBP39729pa plus excellent benefits. We welcome applications equally from those who wish to work full time (37 hours) or for a minimum of 30 hours per week via a flexible working arrangement.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Senior Procurement Contracts Officer to initiate and drive change in analysing, structuring and putting a strategy in place in consultation with internal stakeholders, regarding the management of spend and performance related to service contracts with scientific suppliers.

The postholder will coordinate contractual activities within a busy and often complex procurement team. The role will incorporate contract preparation, contract performance management, contract renewals and contract close-outs along with Redline and commercial risk assessment of supplier terms and conditions.

Key to this role will be the timely review of contracts whilst working efficiently with significant complexity, busy work schedules and very tight deadlines.

Essential Skills




Thorough knowledge of contracts and procurement law and working knowledge of UK commercial law.
Experience of procurement
Proven experience of leading contract negotiations delivering successful GBP1m+ commercial relationships. Proven experience in negotiating commercial and contractual terms successfully.
A natural negotiator with the strength to balance the needs of internal staff, the Institute and our suppliers fairly and to mutual commercial advantage. Previous demonstrable experience and interpersonal skills in influencing, negotiation and persuasion at senior management level.
Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to structure and present information internally and externally, often of a complex nature, in meetings, working groups and committees.
Highly motivated, self-starter, with professional and ethical standards
Ability , to set up priorities, to work autonomously and efficiently with significant complexity, able to set up priorities and manage busy work schedules and very tight deadlines
Excellent numeracy and attention to detail with ability to analyse complex proposals and datasets, to establish trends and forecasts and to structure synthetic vision of the outcome and recommend strategies, including identify risk with a clear breakdown of options and costs.
Previous demonstrable experience in decision making in a fast changing environment
Able to work effectively in a team environment and with cross-functional teams
Good Working knowledge of software packages.
