- Willing to travel on regular basis, including nights away from home.
- Flexible in working time and area
- Computer literate, able to use MS Office, SAP and in house database and workload management systems
- Readiness for training
- Able to work in high altitudes
Flexibility
We are looking for individuals who are able to bring a reasonable degree of flexibility to their working week. Our core hours are 40 per week (usually 8am to 5pm with a one hour break for lunch) but it's possible that something may go wrong with a wind turbine right at the end of your shift and that you need to stay and work overtime to solve the problem. Likewise we need our service teams to be on call up to every 2nd weekend. There is also a need to travel and stay away from home about 20/30% of the time. We will try and deploy you in your local wind farm wherever possible, but travel is a reality of the job.
Working Conditions
Sometimes our working environment is not for the faint hearted! We work in remote locations, exposed to the elements - and high winds, cold and mud is part and parcel of what we do. We work in small teams (usually 2) so most of your day is spent in relatively close proximity to someone else - often in areas with restricted space. It goes without saying that you also need a head for heights.
We take the safety of all personnel on our sites extremely seriously and so you will also need to be able to work to strict safe systems of work and have a healthy respect for Health and Safety requirements.
Physical Fitness
Our Service Technicians need to be fit enough to complete quite a demanding day. Firstly, you need to be able to pass a "Working at Heights" course, including the associated medical. This is a pre-requisite to be able to work up a wind turbine.
You will need to be fit enough to climb heights of between 45 and 100 metres high. Most turbines have lifts within the tower, but some of the older models don't and, if the lift isn't working for some reason, you need to be able to reach the top under your own steam. You also need to be able to lift about 20kgs of kit across short, but sometimes logistically challenging distances within the turbine.
Skills
Our ideal candidates have an amount of mechanical/electrical experience and are qualified. In addition, we also need individuals who are confident using email (we have Outlook) and who can use Excel to complete a spreadsheet. All our Service Technicians have laptops and we use software to help us diagnose faults on our turbines, so a technophobe might not enjoy the job.
If this brief describes a role that you think you might enjoy and you believe that you meet our criteria, then please send in your CV by clicking the "Apply Now" button. We look forward to telling you more.
