Basic qualifications:
Discovery Supply is currently looking for a Director of the Biological Assets group to join our team. The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising a team who manage comprehensive supply chain of fit-for-purpose biosamples including GLP and clinical trial samples that support world-class research at GSK R&D. The successful applicant will also be responsible for a strategy regarding Pharma R&D biological sample storage footprint, compliance processes, and technology investment. In this position, you will lead a team of up to 6 people and report directly to the VP of Discovery Supply (UP).

Preferred qualifications:
Previous experience in project implementation and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification would be an asset.
Practical knowledge of current drug discovery, development and clinical trial strategy would be an asset.
Experience of influencing and setting direction across disciplines/boundaries
Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Proficient in people management, planning, organizing, and risk management (including identification, mitigation and resolution).
Self-motivated, proactive, and able to prioritize work in response to multiple demands.
Previous experience and knowledge of Information Technology procurement would be an asset.
Strong data management skills and advanced skills in Microsoft Office programs.
Maintaining confidentiality and detailed and precise record keeping are essential skills.

Details:
Oversight of the operations of the multiple biological sample banking functional areas and provide leadership including setting direction and inspiring the team, project management, capital investment proposal generation, etc.
Strategic responsibility for defining and interpreting scope of projects, implementing quality control and compliance (including GLP/GCP), and resource management of a complex team.
Championing the further development and implementation of a best in class biological platform including automation and It infrastructure and operational excellence.
Play a leading role in developing and implementing new technologies crucial to the Biological Sample Management operation in order for the facility to maintain its scientific and technological edge.
Lead the request for proposal (RFP) process related to equipment and IT platform.
Initiate and co-ordinate contacts and interfaces with scientists, both internally and externally to maintain and establish new research initiatives.
Support change management activities for site-wide biological sample management strategies.
The selected candidate for this position will have a demonstrated track record of fulfilling core leadership expectations.
Proven track record in biological sample management
Knowledge and experience in human biological samples including clinical trial samples, plus GLP sample collections
Direct experience in the management and set up of a biorepository
