The role of the Senior Planning & Analysis Manager (Head of Planning) is to lead all aspects of planning and analysis for both UK and Europe Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM).

The role holder will be responsible for coordinating and delivering the annual AOP process, latest estimates and forecasts as well as delivering detailed analytical insight for senior management and identifying key performance trends to help drive achievement of financial objectives.

The role spans multiple countries (RBWM Europe & UK) and brands (HSBC, first direct & M&S).

Your responsibilities will include:
Adhering to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators. Implementing the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Regional Head of Compliance, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term 'compliance' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators. Leading the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) & quarterly Latest Estimates. For UK RBWM, leading the in-country planning process, effectively communicating across the UK Business Finance team to successfully deliver a coherent and agreed plan. Supporting RBWM Business Finance Europe's performance, engagement and overall development. Leading the development of performance targets for the RBWM Europe business and monitoring progress towards those targets. Functionally aligning with local / regional finance teams and/or accounting officers to understand, interpret, and provide global direction and support, driving towards global consistency and common frameworks. Identifying, transferring and fostering best practice across regions. Staying abreast of all financially-related, internal and external market-wide initiatives that affect RBWM. Providing appropriate updates and briefing as necessary and applicable. Supporting the development and delivery of a strong business performance management framework in the RBWM Europe business. Contributing to ensuring that there is only one version of the truth for RBWM Europe business performance. Challenging, when appropriate, results presented by sites to ensure that correct strategic decisions are made. Supporting run-rate and variance analysis to identify key trends or data integrity issues with the RBWM Europe data set. Supporting and, on some occasions, leading specific Finance projects which will enhance the operational effectiveness of RBWM Leveraging dependencies within the team to achieve targets Understanding, following and demonstrating compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which one is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy. Maintaining HSBC Internal Control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Leading all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk Leading the business and financial planning and forecasting process for RBWM Europe, ensuring targets are clear and aligned across the business. Leading the preparation of monthly analysis packs into performance of UK & Europe RBWM Leading market share & competitor analysis Leading / providing input into the Group's Strategic Business Outlook / Top Down Guidance Leading the Level 1 & Level 2 planning process. Identifying key drivers and opportunities to help grow the business. Contributing to decision-making and strategy development, using business knowledge and experience to create business confidence in decisions taken. Ensuring input and alignment with Asset Management Group (AMG) & Insurance as part of the planning process. Ensuring minimal variance between the agreed plan and what is migrated / reflected in Finance systems
Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Role relevant qualifications, i.e. Degree / accounting qualification or equivalent Strong relevant work experience in a relevant role with a track record in Planning Experience in Financial Services is desirable but not essential Strong capacity for in depth analysis and challenge, with a proven track record of tackling complex problems and applying a forward-looking approach Commercial focus - an understanding of business finance and management information and an ability to use this information to inform decisions and deliver efficiencies/savings Strong leadership skills, demonstrating ability to use initiative and effect change through people in a large matrix organisation. Proven experience of motivating others to deliver exceptional performance and long terms results as well as being able to handle multiple deliverables simultaneously whilst maintaining an exceptional level of quality. Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences Good understanding of financial statements/models, with experience of analysing data effectively for planning, forecasting and reporting An open, flexible and supportive approach to change and innovation and ability to work and thrive in a fast changing, results driven environment Exceptional drive and commitment Consistently drives performance by living the HSBC values. The base location for this role is Birmingham.

We are required by the Financial Services (Banking Reform) Act 2013 to create a ring-fenced bank in the UK by 1 January 2019. Entirely new from the ground up, HSBC UK's head office is opening in Birmingham. The location of this role will move to our new state of the art offices at 2 Arena Central during 2018.
