Job description:Core-Asset Consulting's client, a leading investment management company in Edinburgh, has a new permanent opportunity available for a Data Governance Specialist to join its small and international team of data stewards who will focus initially on global investment and client data. Together with the team you will be accountable for the delivery of data governance activities including metadata, data policies, and metrics as well as facilitating governance forums. We are actively seeking applications from individuals who can use their business analysis and technical skills to enhance global processes to produce high quality, consistent data across the enterprise.Essential: Candidates should have a thorough understanding of databases and/or investment trading systems and processes with a working knowledge of data flows within a global environment. Candidates should be experienced in SQL and MDM, process improvement such as green belt and have expert level knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access. The role would best suit a candidate who is happy to work independently, where their peers and manager are based in remote locations, and who finds it easy to build solid working relationships through effective networking. Desirable: A qualification in Finance, Technology or Investment Operations is desirable, as is institutional securities industry experience, with a working knowledge of fixed income products and investment processes and an understanding of the regulatory environment for international asset managers and insurers. A knowledge of asset management data governance is preferred. Highly developed analytical, problem solving and excellent communication skills are beneficial. Core responsibilities: The jobholder will attend global data governance meetings and work with local and global field owners and process owners. The jobholder will work closely with data professionals throughout the organisation. Participate as primary business subject matter expert for critical data project(s), mapping data elements, ensuring appropriate metadata is captured, and rules are defined for all critical data elements. Act as a conduit with the business on remediation procedures for critical enterprise data Facilitate discussions and document the future state workflow and processes for the global data operations team as current processes are improved and new processes are created. Take responsibility for understanding the data needs of end state customers and deliver production solutions for their respective data scope Support the firm's data governance maturity / growth Administer the firm's Metadata management Create a global data dictionary Participate in the company's Data Governance Committee & Sub-Committees Create and maintain data governance metrics & management information Develop a deep understanding of each business unit's strategy, key customers, and local regulation / practices Understand and document data lineage across the group (sources and destinations of data) Recommend ways to align data governance across the organisation and determine global standards Propose governance principles and requirements and communicate across the organisation Perform daily data governance activities Support stakeholder management activity (internal and external clients) covering data definitions and business rules, ensuring data governance standards support the requirements of clients, including those serviced from multiple locations Support a positive work environment and culture that embodies the company's core values and behavioural competencies. Support Change Management in projects that require data management subject matter experts Develop and maintaining strong working relationships with internal stakeholders across the organization including Operational Risk and Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal risk policies and controls by maintaining a current knowledge of regulatory requirements, identifying process gaps and risks, and implementing effective processes and controls.
