The Role

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Engineering Maintenance Coordinator will ensure port operations are maintained as required in a safe and cost effective manner utilising planning controls, co-ordination and company policies and procedures.

The post holder will co-ordinate the day-to-day maintenance of the port's infrastructure to include the assignment of plant, labour and materials. He/she will also ensure the delivery and review of the effected plan to ensure variances are reported.

Accountabilities

  • Liaise with the Operations, Marine and Estates Departments and external Contractors as required to co-ordinate maintenance activities
  • Ensure all necessary “Safe Systems of Work” and “Risk Assessments” are prepared, available and issued to the maintenance staff. All works are to be planned in accordance with relevant Health & Safety legislation together with company policies and procedures
  • Maintain the “preventative maintenance” programme within the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as required in order that information may be both inputted and retrieved. Maintain backlog lists to ensure they represent an accurate reflection of the Engineering work that is required to be undertaken
  • Identify and manage both backlog and future maintenance requirements co-ordinating the forward planning of plant, labour and materials ensuring that the same is scheduled and communicated via the work plan during the Weekly Engineering Review Meeting
  • Monitor budgets assigned to Engineering maintenance works
  • Obtain best value for ABP when either awarding external works or purchasing plant, equipment and/or materials
  • Monitor and progress both fault report work and statutory inspections and ensure works are undertaken and completed as required
  • Generate planned / unplanned engineering jobs
  • Monitor works undertaken by Engineering Supervisors ensuring works are completed as scheduled
  • Attend break down situations during both normal hours and out of hours to convey specific knowledge and give guidance
  • Co-ordinate damage inspections with the Operations and Marine Departments and as required third parties; formulate costs and ensure repair works are undertaken as soon as possible in a safe and cost effective manner. Following completion of the works, ensure all costs are allocated correctly
  • Responsible for the ongoing management, development and training of team members. To undertake appraisals and to ensure team members have sufficient knowledge, through use of Skills Matrix, to be able to operate independently on a day-to-day basis
  • Ownership and maintenance of the “Norms” database. Submission to Maintenance Manager for authorisation of changes

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Holder of an engineering qualification (ONC / HNC or equivalent) and experience associated with mechanical and/or electrical bias
  • Previous undertaking of coordination / supervisory / planning experience utilising a comprehensive range of tools and techniques demonstrating proficient use of key performance indicators
  • Excellent communication / interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate to both internal and external customers and the ability to work as part of a team
  • A sound awareness of budgeting requirements demonstrating the ability to read financial statements, forecast planned spending, reporting against budget and any variances against the plan
  • IOSH trained with the ability to demonstrate a fundamental understanding of Health & Safety principles including risk assessment and hazard perception
  • Sound IT skills demonstrating an understanding and use of a range of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience and understanding of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and their application

Ideal:

  • Previous experience within port maintenance / heavy industry or a varied, intensive operational environment
  • Experience of Construction Design & Management Regulations and attendance to an accredited course associated with the regulations
  • Previous responsibility for budgetary control
  • CMMS experience (SAP)
