Gooch & Housego is a manufacturer of precision optical components and sub-systems, as well as light measurement instrumentation and services, based upon key enabling optical technologies.
Part of an International group of companies we provide comprehensive training and development through our program of staff development for new starters transferring into the world of precision optics.
Due to record growth, internal investment and continued expansion in several global markets our Ilminster facility has the following vacancies for Optical Workers across the site, skilled and semi-skilled, for the machining and hand manufacture of precision optical components and assemblies. Teams work in lean manufacturing such as 6S, TPM, CI programs.
General Skills - These are required for all roles
- Exceptional hand eye coordination, dexterity and working with your hands
- Self-motivated people capable of working and communicating effectively in a cross departmental and collaborative approach to resolving problems and improving manufacturing processes
- Shift working (early/late) if needed
- Patience, able to produce consistent work at a high level and good levels of concentration
- Team Working
- Optical Handling
We are also especially interested to hear from you if you have any of the following;
- Experience of working and setting precision machinery (cutting, grinding, smoothing and polishing optical components prior to coating applications)
- Use of CNC/NC machinery for the cutting and shaping of material to high dimensional tolerances (lathes, milling and grinding, cutting etc.)
- The ability to read and work to technical drawings with high dimensional and geometric requirements
- Experience working within a comprehensive quality management system and ERP system.
- Safe use and application of a range of solvents and chemicals
- Worked in a cleanroom environment
- Good practical maths GCSE grade C and above or equivalent with an appreciation for geometry and science.
- Soldering experience
- Basic knowledge of lasers
- Basic Microsoft package experience
