Based in Brislington

Role Summary:

To work as a team member with a flexible approach within the Facilities Department. The Switchboard Operator is responsible for the efficient performance of switchboard various duties.

Responsibilities

- Operate the computer and screen based switchboard. Answer calls from the general public, efficiently and politely connecting to the appropriate extension and answer queries using initiative to direct the enquiry to the correct destination.
- First in line for the Trust's Major Incident calls from the ambulance/police and then proceed with the Trust's cascade procedure. Use on-going personal initiative throughout the incident and through goodwill and experience; be available to come on site to assist other colleagues when needed after the declaration of a Major Incident.
- Provide an answering service to Trust personnel and either connect to an outside call or advise up to date information. Be patient and assist people where English is not their first language.
- In the event of a fire, to remain in the switchboard area until final evacuation procedures are completed and fire team instruct to leave the building.
- Deal with the emergency alarm panels and use initiative to action set procedures.
- Acts as the primary contact for all emergencies coming into the organisation.
- Complete on-call rotas and clinic lists daily and accept responsibility for keeping records up to date. These include staff sickness and annual leave and updating central rotas as necessary.
- Book taxis for departments and keep accurate records.
- Book secure detained transport using the computerised system for all Strategic Business Unit activities and keep accurate records.
- Train all new members of staff in the use of the computer and screen based switchboard and give guidance on all Trust's alarm panels emergency procedures and ensure all new members of staff are assisted with induction
- Log and report all telephone, switchboard and emergency panel faults to the relevant personnel.
- Intensive and PCLS answering service (out of hours) this is not in a clinical capacity and strict procedures are followed.
- Reception Sickness Reporting.
- Assessment & Recovery call handling.
- Carry out such other duties as may be required to ensure the smooth and efficient provision of the Facilities Department.
