Who will I be working with?

The Cake Crew is the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of private label cupcakes, supplying a variety of bakery products into major supermarkets, independent retailers and wholesalers. The award winning business has been rapidly expanding due to customer demand and has a workforce in excess of 240 personnel. The Cake Crew continue to make significant investments into the development of employees and infrastructure to build upon the success, with recognition and reward high on the agenda.

So, what will the role of NPD Technologist entail?

Reporting directly to the NPD Manager, as an NPD Technologist you’ll work as part of the wider NPD team and be responsible for the introduction of new product concepts, ingredients and methods from initial brief to handover. Your responsibilities and duties will include, although not be limited to:

  • Developing new innovative products for both NPD and EPD projects
  • Generating new product ideas and recipes for final sign off and improving existing recipes
  • Sourcing new ingredients, decorations, packaging and paper cases
  • Working closely with the Bakery Assistant
  • Undertaking in house organoleptic testing on trialled products
  • Monitoring the use of additives, adhering to customer ingredients hit lists and procedures
  • Managing the relationship between customer needs and requirements and the Process Technologist’s adherences to factory processes
  • Completing factory trials to scale up recipes from the kitchen and explore new packaging concepts and paper cases, ensuring all trial paperwork is completed
  • Ensuring transit trials are completed and recorded, and finalised recipes are recorded and added to the system
  • Researching new ways to produce and improve the quality, processing, packaging, storage and safety of The Cake Crew products
  • Sending out kitchen samples, ensuring delivery deadlines are met

What will I need to be considered for this NPD Technologist role?

  • Proven experience in a development role within a bakery / food manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of the functions of ingredients used within the bakery sector
  • Superb organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to motivate colleagues
  • Superb problem solving and consulting skills
  • Good administrative skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Innovative and creative approach to work
  • Ability to work well using own initiative and as part of a team
  • High level of attention to detail

Salary:                          Up to £24,000 per annum, level dependent on experience

Additional benefit:         Company pension scheme

Contracted Hours:         37.5 hours per week

Hours of Work:             Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm
