A leading independent regional museum based in Carlisle, Cumbria is currently looking to recruit a Community & Young People Coordinator (Maternity Cover) and are offering a salary of £23,398 - £24,963 dependant on experience to the right candidate.

The Role:
  • As part of the role you will manage and deliver a wide range of projects, activities and events that cater for existing visitors as well as developing new audiences
  • Working with a wide range of diverse audiences, including young people, the over 60s and hard to reach groups. This role requires excellent time management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Manage and develop a number of monthly groups, including the museum Youth Panel for young people aged 14-21
  • Senior Young Carers group in partnership with Carlisle Carers
  • Morning at the Museum for older people living with dementia, their family friends and carers
  • The Making Space Art Group in collaboration with Carlisle Day Services working with adults with mental health conditions
  • Manage a varied programme of monthly lunchtime lectures and a community display space
  • Plan and deliver bespoke projects and events throughout the year with partners including Cumbria County Council’s Specialist Youth Services, NACRO and Mencap
  • Deliver opportunities for young people to achieve Arts Award qualifications
  • Develop projects linked to nationally and internationally significant events including Black History month, LGBT History month, Dementia Awareness Week, and Diversity Awareness Day
  • Supervise casual staff and volunteers
 
Key Skills & Experience:
  • Two years experience in Museum, Heritage or Art Gallery environment
  • Minimum of two years experience engaging with young people and / or communities in an informal learning environment
  • Understanding of the role of museums in lifelong learning
  • An understanding of how museum collections can be used in community projects.
  • Understanding of Audience Development
  • Recognises the role that technology plays in improving access
  • Above average literacy & numeracy skills- grade C or above at GCSE or O Level English and Maths
  • Degree or equivalent in related subject
  • Enhanced DBS
