Purchasing Manager

Part of an international group, our client is a leading specialist steel stockholder who has built an enviable business presence within the UK through organic growth and strategic acquisition.

At this exciting stage in their development, this long established and highly profitable business is now looking for a Purchasing Manager to lead and manage the company’s purchasing function, through the successful development and delivery of effective purchasing strategies, which optimise the company’s supply chain and improves the overall value proposition.

 This specialist role will require you to effectively manage a team of eight purchasing personnel involved in the procurement of a wide steel product and quality range alongside non steel purchases varying from office supplies, marketing materials, travel and work spares.  The overall spend is £50m steel and non-steel combined.

Principal Accountabilities

• Leading and developing purchasing strategy
• Performing strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend whilst critically evaluating all areas of the supply chain
• Leading negotiations with key suppliers, crafting negotiation strategies and closing deals with optimal terms
• Sourcing new suppliers
• Leading and mentoring the purchasing team and providing a dedicated focus on the professional development of individual team members
• Assessing, managing and mitigating risk

Essentially the company is looking for a purchasing professional with a strong purchasing track record alongside people management experience.  Although the role encompasses both steel and non-steel purchasing, because of the nature of the business, it is critical that the successful candidate has a comprehensive knowledge of different steel types and grades and the applications they are used for.

The company are looking for a high energy team leader who has the ability to orchestrate the team at the same time successfully prioritising and planning work demands with the innate ability to keep many plates spinning at the same time.  The company is looking for an effective decision maker who is also compliant with systems and procedures.
