Engagement with the business community is at the heart of what we do here at Bristol Business School/Bristol Law School and we have a long history of working very effectively with businesses in the region for their benefit and the benefit of our students. We do that through our Bristol Business Engagement Centre (BBEC), the hub for all our external connections.
The Centre builds, supports and maintains our linkages with the business community. From establishing and meeting short course or customised development needs, through working with external organisations interested in thought leadership or specialist consultancy requirements, to businesses looking for opportunities to come and talk to our students or have them visit their world of work and maybe even undertaken internships or live projects alongside them, BBEC is there to manage the connections. The Centre thus mixes commercial engagement with the needs of businesses alongside finding opportunities to provide real-world experiences for our students, further benefiting both businesses and students; businesses get to actively add value to the learning of students so they are even better prepared and can add value to businesses when they graduate. A genuinely virtuous circle.
We currently have a vacancy for the key role of Associate Director to support the work of the Centre. Reporting to the Director of the Centre, the Associate Director (External Engagement) has specific responsibilities for business development and leading teams of people to deliver commercial income projects. S/he will also be personally involved in the delivery of commercial projects. Increasing the financial contribution made by the Centre's commercial activity and linking this activity to teaching, learning and research is at the core of the role.
The post holder will undertake commercial-facing work for 0.8 of their time; the other 0.2 will be linked to teaching/research/knowledge exchange within one of the Faculty departments.
Other benefits, in addition to salary:
• a generous holiday allowance of 35 Days
• up to 12.5 bank holiday/closure days per year in addition;
• flexible working;
• excellent defined benefit pension schemes;
• option to participate in the cycle to work scheme;
• family friendly policies;
• onsite nursery at our Frenchay Campus;
• option to purchase childcare vouchers.
The post is based at our lively Frenchay campus where we are investing over GBP200m in new facilities. BBEC has dedicated state-of the art executive spaces within the brand new Bristol Business School, where the facilities are second to none and where the business community is welcomed with open arms. The building is open and designed to enable businesses and our students to come together. We host distinguished business and academic addresses as well as student conferences and provides space for businesses and commercial associations such as the IoD to meet.
Frenchay campus is within close proximity to excellent motorway links and within walking distance of two train stations, making UWE Frenchay Campus the ideal place to work for those wishing to commute to Bristol.
